  1. The classroom training we offer at the NAIMH begins with this Fundamentals of Medical Herbalism Program, which runs from September through November.
  2. It continues with the Advanced Herbalism Program, which runs from January through June. See below for details.
  3. It completes with the Clinical Internship Program from September through the following May. See below for details.
  4. During the Internship program, you may also complete requirements for a Certificate in Clinical Nutrition by attending extra classes 2 days a month. See catalog for details.

Fundamentals of Medical Herbalism
174 Classroom Hours   12 weeks    $1695        Next program starts August 19, 2008
The centerpiece of this certificate program is a 120-hour class integrating physiology, pathology, herbal actions, and herbal materia medica. The class begins with the basics of the vitalist paradigm of healing, then moves through the various tissues and organs of the body, and the herbs most commonly used to influence them. Also included in the program is are basic nutrition, introductions to botany, herbal medicine-making, and plant identification, and a class focusing on herbs of commerce.

Classes are held from 10-5 on Monday through Wednesday

The Advanced Certificate program prepares the student for the professional practice of medical herbalism and clinical nutrition. The program consists of a series of seminar-modules which may also be taken as stand-alone certificate courses.

Students who have earned the Advanced Certificate see paying clients in our sliding-scale public clinic. The cases from each week are analyzed in a weekly case-review to maximize learning opportunities. Interns also engage in a practice-management and client-education practicums and write a thesis on materia-medica.
